40 acres located 13 miles North of Trinidad, West at the Ludlow exit. Driving into the canyon you will get to experience the former mining town known for the Ludlow Massacre. There is also a United Mine Workers of America Memorial honoring the fallen victims. Before the massacre, Ludlow was largely a tent city for miners and their families. There are several original buildings and homesteads still standing and other ruins from the 1900's. Once you travel back in time through the ghost town remains, you will arrive at the Ponderosa Hills gated community. It includes a few private homes but it is mostly used for Hunting, Camping, Atv, Dirtbikes and Hiking or Exploring. Make sure you keep an eye out for the Turkey, Elk, Bear and Deer and the occasional bobcat! The roads are not maintained and one should be prepared for a rough ride if you do not take it slow. Arriving up at Lot 68, the gated access welcomes you onto the rolling 40 acres of trees and views. Located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Spanish peaks are even visible! Enjoy camping near the firepit. Use the sheds for your toy storage or to sleep in. The large Greenhouse could easily be converted into a small enclosed cabin and or used for growing your own garden to live off the land. It is large enough you could do both! This secluded property is not easy to find and would be perfect for someone looking to live off grid.
